how to build an effective skincare routine.

Building a skincare routine can seem like a daunting task, so we’ve created a three-level guide - starting with the essentials and ending with the "fun but not strictly necessary" extras.

Good, Everyday Practices For Skin
Every evidence-based skincare routine should be built on a foundation of good, consistent habits. That includes gentle cleansing, daily sun protection, applying a hydrating moisturiser when your skin feels dry, and avoiding unnecessary irritation.

Gentle Cleansing

What constitutes “gentle” will vary depending on your skin type, climate, season, and any active treatments you may be using. You might find that a cleanser you loved in the warmer months feels too drying in winter - or that you can no longer tolerate it after introducing retinol into your routine.

The key is to watch for signs of irritation: tightness, redness, burning, or stinging after cleansing often signals that your cleanser may be too harsh for your skin’s current needs.

Although foaming isn't always a sign of harshness, many people find that non-foaming milk cleansers work better for sensitive skin. These are widely available at pharmacies. If you use long-wear sunscreen or makeup, you may need a separate makeup remover. Don’t overlook cold creams either - these gentle, wipe-off cleansers can effectively remove build-up while leaving behind a moisturising layer, and they minimise water exposure.

Actives: Targeted Treatments

To address specific skin concerns, consider introducing well-formulated products with clinically backed ingredients. Depending on your needs, the ideal ingredients may differ - but many offer multiple benefits.

If you’re targeting uneven skin tone, look for products containing niacinamide, azelaic acid, alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), polyhydroxy acids (PHAs), or Vitamin C. For fine lines and wrinkles, retinol, Vitamin C, and AHAs/PHAs are well-researched options.

Some of these actives, like retinol and Vitamin C, benefit from advanced delivery systems that improve stability and skin absorption - making a well-formulated serum a great choice. Others, such as niacinamide, are more straightforward and stable in a wide range of formats.

Sun Protection

Sun protection isn’t just about applying SPF. It also means seeking shade, avoiding midday sun, and using hats, sunglasses, and clothing to shield vulnerable areas like the eyes, ears, back of the neck, and shoulders.

Consistent sun protection is essential if you’re concerned about wrinkles or pigmentation, as sun exposure can quickly reverse the progress achieved through skincare or clinical treatments.

Room for Fun and Experimentation

Skincare can - and should - be enjoyable. Once your routine has a solid foundation and you're addressing your specific concerns, there’s room to explore.

Try that fruity-scented mask you’ve been eyeing, or test a new cleanser with an indulgent texture. With good basics in place, you’ll be better able to spot irritation early and balance results with pleasure.

We offer a wide range of products from nourishing face oil, brightening serum, long-lasting moisturizer, salicylic acid serum and more.

New To Retinol?

If you’re just starting with retinol or have sensitive skin, ease into it. Begin by using your retinol product two to three times a week, gradually increasing to nightly use as your skin adjusts.

For a gentler experience, we recommend applying one of the following first:

  • Minimalist Hydrating Moisturiser – A lightweight, comforting cream with 5% Pro-Vitamin B5 and Centella Asiatica.

  • Barrier + Antioxidant Treatment – Powered by 20% Liquid Crystal Lipids, Bakuchiol and Turmeric Root for antioxidant defence and skin barrier support.

After that, follow with Wrinkle + Texture Concentrate as your retinol-based treatment.

This layering technique helps support your skin’s barrier and reduce the likelihood of irritation, especially during the first few weeks of use.

It’s worth remembering that consistency is more important than perfection. You don’t need a 10-step routine to see results; what matters most is finding a routine that works for your skin and sticking with it. Regular use of well-formulated products will always outperform sporadic use of a complicated regimen. Keep it simple, sustainable, and tailored to your needs.
